Got Skaters?

Tomorrow, July 17th, is the last of the series of skateboard competitions. So if your little (or big) skater is looking for something to do this weekend, check it out. The Central Valley Am Jam was started by a local skate mom, so kids in the area could compete, show off their skills and win some pretty cool prizes! It's fun for everyone, and if you've never seen a competition, you need to check it out, some of the tricks are amazing! Lots of fun to watch and if you're feeling a little daring, even compete in!!

So if you're in Ceres swing by the Smyrna Skate Park, be there by 9am if you're going to compete! :)

For those of you questioning my sanity....

(ha ha) YES! Wine really does come in a juice box, would I lie to you? I've had several emails (you know who you are) along with a few comments on my Facebook page! So I did it, I picked up a variety of wine in little boxes just to show you. We're going out of town soon, so they'll come in handy very soon! I found these at Target, thanks to a tip from a wine drinking friend ;-) and I found 3 different varieties. Pinot Grigio, White Sangria and a Cabernet. They were reasonably inexpensive, and think of how convenient they are! :) So, now, who's joining me for the free movies in the park now?!

10 Tips for staying cool in the Central Valley

If you've lived in the Central Valley a year or a lifetime, you know how extreamly hot and unbearable our summers can be! You have to do what you can to keep cool, and here's my top 10 list for staying cool this summer!!

1. Find a pool! If you don't have one, find one! Friends pool, city pool, pool at the gym....even your neighbor on vacation's pool. (Just be sure to put their newspaper on the porch, it's the least you can do)

2. A cold beverage is a necessity. Before noon, lemonade, iced mocha, you name it. If it's got ice, it works. After 12, it's pretty much a free for all...grab what you can find in the fridge and chill.

3. Splash parks are great! Ripon has a fun one at Mistlin park, the kids love it, and there is a decent amount of shade, so get there early to claim your spot! :)

4. Wear the kids out at Pump it Up in Manteca. They have a few days a week where they have open play, bring a book or better yet, a friend with kids and chat! The kids go wild for 2 hours and you can catch up with your mommy friends. It's always nice and cool in there, it's well worth the $6 per child cover charge.

5. Shop! Well, even if you don't have the money to shop, window shopping is an art! Take the kids through the mall, keep cool and promise them a quick trip to the playground after. Don't forget to pick up a pretzel while you're there! Costco is always great too, shop around and eat enough samples to fill the kids up for lunch!

6. Stay in and play video games....this is what we did this morning. The kids loved it, and well, I broke a sweat playing Wii boxing! So much fun and such a workout too!!

7. Wash the car. Get the kids involved, and start scrubbing. Next thing you know, you'll all be soaking wet and the car will be clean too! :)

8. Super Soaker fight...okay, so my kids LOVE this idea! Guns and fighting are never allowed in our house (okay, so not never, but hardly....) Everyone grabs their weapon of choice and lets loose. The only rule is...there is no complaining! This is a highly requested activity in my home!

9. Grab a popsicle! This will seriously bring you back to when you were 7! Love this!

10. Take a nap! Turn on the AC, trick the kids into playing the quiet game, and catch a few Zzzzzz's!

What do you and your kids do to keep cool in this heat??
